As more and more firms are jumping onto social media advertising , it is important to know and understand their target market. This will enable marketers to better market their products and effectively communicate their ideas across. This can be done by analysing data from website/page to determine the profile of the average user (age, gender, nationality). Marketers can then fine tune their message and choose the right page/website to advertise their products.
Although advertising through social media is comparatively easier and cheaper than traditional advertising (tv, newspaper and radio), most of the advertisements do not get through to their intended targets as the click through rate for facebook ads is only 0.9%. (https://www.wordstream.com/blog/ws/2017/02/28/facebook-advertising-benchmarks)Some of the down side of paid advertisement are that users are usually immune to it. For example, most users scroll pass instagram advertisements like it was never there or as most of them are tech savvy, they’d probably have installed ad-blockers and your paid ads on youtube will be rendered useless! So how do we get pass this ? The best way would be to first understand your target audience and find out what is their preferred way of researching for more data. Some like watching famous youtubers review the product they are intending to buy and some other prefer going to the company’s social media pages to seek more information. Therefore, it is critical that marketers that want to ultilize social media as a platform to advertise understand their target audiences and their purchase behaviours.
So, which is your favourite way of researching on your product of interest ? Personally, i prefer youtube ! I love watching content created by users that are non- biased (unboxing videos), i feel that this way it i can get the most accurate information. What about you ? do let me know in the comments
